DISTRICT-ASSISTANT MECHANIC

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, services vehicles and performs scheduled vehicle service

maintenance, assist the mechanic(s) with journey level maintenance and repair work on school buses, grounds equipment, district vehicles and other vehicles/equipment as needed. Collaborate and work with mechanic(s) to maintain appropriate fleet readiness to ensure safe and effective transportation services according to the regulations of the State of Ohio, Department of Education, and the policies of the Springboro Board of Education

Qualifications:

1. Training, experience and/or knowledge in truck/bus mechanics including diesel engines and other

automotive equipment vehicle maintenance

2. Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Bus Driver endorsement or ability to obtain no

greater than six (6) months after the date of hire

3. Knowledge in use of hand tools, small and large power tools

4. Must pass criminal background check

5. Subject to random drug testing

DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist in the performance of repairs, service work and scheduled vehicle service maintenance to maintain district vehicles/grounds equipment/other as needed

2. Performs minor repairs identified on pre-inspection trip forms and service repair requests

3. Assists Mechanic in performing more complex repairs

4. Transports vehicles to and from break-down and repair sites

5. Keeps accurate individual vehicle records for fluid replacement, tire replacement, parts and equipment, repairs and other maintenance work performed on district-owned vehicles

6. Maintains valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Bus Driver endorsement

7. Assists in getting parts for necessary repair work to district-owned vehicles

8. Helps keep an accurate inventory of all bus and maintenance vehicle parts

9. Helps maintain and operate all equipment and facilities at levels of safety that promote the protection of staff and students

10. Assist with housekeeping in and around the service facility (including ice treatment and snow removal)

11. Maintains an appearance that is suitable for the responsibilities assigned and the work performed

12 While performing duties may drive buses/vehicles and other motorized vehicles to test

13. May need to perform as a bus driver, as needed

14. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance

15. Performs other transportation duties assigned

Additional Working Conditions:

Frequent: exposure to fumes, electrical hazards, inclement weather driving conditions, dust

Occasional: Exposure to heavy equipment, loud noise, irritating chemicals (e.g.: equipment lubricants and solvents), blood, bodily fluids, and tissue

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

* Effective Date:ASAP

* Terms of Employment: One-year probationary contract

* Hours of Work: 8 hours per day/260 day contract

* Salary and Benefits: In accordance with the Springboro Classified Negotiated agreement
