Estimating Assistant

Office in Omaha, NE or Grimes, IA.

Remote possible for highly experienced candidates in the wood component estimating/project coordinating field.

Job Overview: As a member of the Estimating team, you will be responsible for reviewing project specifications and working in close collaboration with other members of the Estimating Department, while performing the specified tasks.

Responsibilities & Duties: (This may include some or all of the following activities.)

  • Review plans to identify both specified and non-specified material requirements
  • Download plans to estimating to our estimating tool Planswift, label all pages to set up for estimator.
  • Create estimating files and folders in estimating software/Timberline.
  • Assist Project Managers with various tasks required by the Project manager
  • Review project documents for specialized products. Assist in sending off plans to various suppliers if needed.
  • Record estimating data/productivity as required by Estimating managers.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. AS/BS degree preferred. Similar experience will be considered.
  • Read and interpret construction documents (i.e. Structural and Architectural plans, project SPECS, estimates, etc.)
  • Knowledge of building materials and practices is preferred with a willingness to learn new products.
  • Capability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines
  • Efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Programs (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Able to work independently, as a team player, supporting company goals and objectives in a professional manner.
  • Estimating/design software experience (e.g. Mitek, Timberline, PlanSwift, or Epicor PE).
  • Experience in an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) System (e.g. BisTrack)
  • Able to work effectively and productively with others at all organizational levels, as well as with the public.
  • Present information in a clear, logical and insightful manner.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit/stand at a desk for prolonged periods of time
  • Speak and hear, both in person and by telephone
  • Use hands repetitively to type, handle, feel and operate standard office equipment
  • Reach with arms and hands

Work Environment:

  • Open office setting with occasional distractions

  • Reasonable expectation of 40 hours per week (typical work hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday Friday).
  • Flexible schedule adjustments as long as work is being completed
  • Possible advancement to Estimator position with added training and experience.
