Controls Hardware Designer

Job Summary

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer with a background in electrical engineering. The controls hardware designer will report to the hardware design supervisor and will be responsible for designing electrical control systems for industrial automation equipment. The controls hardware designer will work directly with project engineers, team managers and purchasing personnel.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design new equipment electrical control systems based on industry standards and principles.
  • Follow customer and other applicable standards and incorporate them into system designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain project timelines and critical path milestones.
  • Work with the engineering team to ensure hardware designs are completed within budget.
  • Maintain task lists and reports of open items.
  • Maintain project design documentation and prepare customer deliverables.
  • Ensure the controls engineering process is tracked and followed throughout the project.
  • Responsible for managing the drawing library.
  • Create bill of materials, generate purchase requisitions and other reports as required.
  • Participate in internal and external design reviews of deliverables.
  • Work directly with project engineers, team managers and purchasing personnel.

Education & Experience

  • Electrical engineering degree preferred; mechatronics degrees will also be considered.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, including NEC/NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI.
  • Knowledge or education in electrical circuits, schematic reading, design, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with electrical CAD systems, such as AutoCAD Electrical and/or ePLAN.
  • Experience in system design with Rockwell Logix 5000 family processors.
  • Experience in system design with Siemens S7-1500 family processors.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.

Physical Demand and Work Enviroment

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
