Conditions of Employment

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Position requires: a) use of power equipment to buff and restore floors and shampoo carpets; b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms; and c) routine maintenance to custodial equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate related equipment to job description.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking general cleaning / restroom / disinfectant supplies. Cleaning supplies orders shall be requested far enough in advance as not to hinder his/her duties.
  2. Reports routine maintenance required for custodial equipment and supplies to warehouse manager.
  3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal in classroom / office areas only.
  4. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  5. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  9. May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  11. Inspect United State flag and request new when flag becomes discolored or weathered.
  12. Assumes responsibility for closing of the building each day. Check to make sure doors are locked and windows are closed.
  13. Moves furniture or other items within building for various activities as directed by Principal and /or Building Manager.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • Requires physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 65%) of job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of the, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to talk or to hear. The employee must squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp items during the day.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to ninety pounds. Additionally, the employee, while performing the duties of this job, will regularly work indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee may also work at times with caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays, and non-household item dust. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate, but on rare occasions the employee will work in a loud area.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
