JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: HEALTH AIDE

JOB GOAL: OPERATE AND MANAGE HEALTH TASKS AT THE BUILDING LEVEL

REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL WITH ALSO RECEIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE DRUG-FREE HEALTH COORDINATOR

PAY COLUMN: BASE PAY

  1. Definition: An individual hired by the Poplar Bluff School District to provide first aid for students who will receive First Aid training as planned by the Health Services staff. This individual will have current CPR certification, and the First Aid Provider will be aware of the individuals in the building who have current certification.

  12. Major Responsibilities


First Aid
  1. Provide first aid to students in accordance with First Aid training. First Aid Flip Chart and the direction of the school nurse.
  2. Documentation of information for students receiving first aid as outlined in training.

Medications
  1. Dispense Medication in accordance with Poplar Bluff School's medication policies.
  2. Secure proper medication requests prior to accepting the prescribed medicine into the health area.
  3. Medication must be kept in a locked, secured location to prevent misuse or accidental ingestion.
  4. Documentation of medicine given must be recorded on appropriate forms for Medication.

Accidents/Incidents Injury Form
  • The Accident/Incident form must be completed by the individual providing the care. The nurse will complete the form if involved in assessing the student. Otherwise, it is the responsibility of the principal or first aid provider to complete the form. After the form is signed by the health care provider, it should be turned in to the principal.

Immunizations
  1. Being proficient in checking and maintaining immunization records to ensure students are up to date prior to entering school and continue to meet all state law requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  1. Be physically mobile and have a current driver's license in the State of Missouri. Have a vehicle available to travel between schools as scheduled or when called.
  2. Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  3. Be able to read a thermometer, read and hear blood pressure manometer, measure height and weight, to screen for head lice.
  4. Be able to read and chart student health records.
  5. Be able to carry approximately 25 lbs. and operate knowledgeable instruments used for screenings. Be able to carry instruments to and from car to the school and up and down several flights of stairs.
  6. Have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and members of the medical profession.
  7. Have at least 1-year of working experience in a hospital setting and/or doctor's office.
  8. Dispense Medication in accordance with the Poplar Bluff School's medication policies.
  9. Secure the proper medication request prior to accepting the prescribed medicine into the health area, and take out all the wording in red- "The request form must be on file in the school office." We accept the label on the prescription bottle as a physician's request; therefore, a form is not always needed.
