Seeking a Versatile Attorney Wanting to Go In-House! Our client, an international mining company, is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join its wholly owned U.S. subsidiary. This role will report directly to the subsidiary s VP, General Counsel & Secretary. The person hired must be ready to provide legal support and strategic advice on a variety of matters involving procurement, development, land use, permitting, regulatory and compliance, safety, employment, government relations, general corporate law, litigation management, etc. As one of only two total attorneys handling all U.S. legal matters, the Corporate Counsel must be well organized with an ability to work independently across multiple complex projects. The Corporate Counsel will be in the office located in Spokane, Washington at least 3 days per week.


Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Provide legal support in the substantive areas of contracts, employment, environmental, government relations, safety, land management, sales, corporate governance, compliance, and litigation management.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of contracts.
  • Support governance under and implementation of a complex operating agreement with an Alaska Native corporation.
  • Collaborate with teams in Canada.
  • Assist in managing customs and trade compliance.
  • Provide additional legal support as needed for the company.


Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Currently admitted to the Washington State Bar, or able to waive in promptly.
  • 4-8 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Good working knowledge in at least one of the following areas: commercial law, corporate law, employment law, environmental law within the mining industry, and/or litigation.
  • Sound legal and commercial judgment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to align with business objectives within established legal framework.
  • Ability to get along well with others and foster relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels within the organization.
  • Strategic, adaptable, and versatile.
  • Exposure to the resources industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Alaska Native and Native American communities is a plus.


Compensation Range & Benefits:

  • $113,000 - $146,000.
