BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of maintenance work which contributes to the upkeep and care of the parks, buildings, facilities, cemetery, and other city property. This is accomplished by maintaining the appearance and safety of the grounds; ensuring the readiness for play of the athletic fields; maintaining the appearance and safety of the playground and picnic areas; maintaining the cleanliness of the grounds and facilities; maintaining the safe and efficient operation of equipment; and completing related work as assigned.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

FEMA ISC 700; Defensive Driving Course.

Driver's License Required - Y Type - A Endorsements - N

# Code Essential Functions

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.

2 H Leads crews by supervising and participating in a variety of parks maintenance activities by scheduling and assigning work, monitoring work activities, determining priorities, and completing work orders and regularly scheduled tasks.

3 H Maintain the good health of landscape trees, shrubs, turf grasses, ornamental grasses and flowers by applying herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals as directed by the City Horticulturist. Scout for insects and diseases and monitor potential problem areas. Treat with appropriate pesticides if necessary. Calibrate all of the various types of pesticide application equipment, and calculate the appropriate amount of chemical to be applied.

4 H Maintains the appearance and safety of the grounds by mowing the grass to its proper height; trimming and edging around the walks, flower beds, walls, buildings, or specified areas, spraying lawn shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides, removing leaves and debris, pruning shrubs and trees to shape to improve growth or to remove damaged or diseased leaves, branches, or twigs, watering the lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds, and planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.

5 H Maintains the appearance and safety of the playground and picnic area by leveling and adding cushion material, and painting and performing minor repairs to tables, seats, bleachers, signs, and playground equipment. Maintains the cleanliness of the grounds and facilities by removing litter, emptying trash barrels, removing broken glass, and cleaning the bathrooms.

6 H Maintain safe and efficient operation of spraying equipment by performing basic maintenance such as equipment inspection, fuel and oil replenishment, turning in equipment for scheduled maintenance, and replacing worn or damaged parts. Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment by sharpening blades, performing basic maintenance such as oiling parts and replenishing gasoline and oil, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts.

7 S Perform administrative tasks by keeping records of all pesticide applications as required by the TDA.

8 H Construct and maintains park shelters, playgrounds and equipment, concessions, restroom buildings and median structures by constructing or

9 H replacing worn equipment and materials, cleaning all areas, and patching roads.
