Position Description

The School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi invites applications for two nine-month tenure track Assistant Professor of Integrated Marketing Communications positions starting Fall 2025. We seek candidates with a research background in areas related to integrated marketing communications, strategic communication, public relations, or advertising. The successful candidate will have research and teaching experience, and those who also have relevant professional experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

The individuals hired will teach in the IMC bachelor's and/or master's programs. These faculty members may also serve as chairs/advisors for graduate student theses or creative scholarship.

Teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face or online courses in research methods, public relations, IMC campaigns, international/multicultural IMC, and/or emerging technology.

The candidates will maintain a steady stream of scholarly publications in their area of expertise and be expected to perform service to the school and university.

The School of Journalism and New Media offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications. The IMC program curriculum is designed to provide a foundation for students in creating, managing, and evaluating brand-building communications across traditional and digital media platforms. The IMC program is one of the largest of its kind, with nearly 1300 undergraduate students served by 13 full-time faculty and 11 support faculty. The graduate program in IMC has surged in recent years to more than 100 students.

Position Details

Appointment: 9 Month

Assignment Type: Tenure Track

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in communication or other area related to integrated marketing communications. Candidates without a Ph.D. will be considered but will be required to have completed the degree by the time of the position start date.

Minimum Requirements:
•A Ph.D. in communication or related discipline with an emphasis in public relations, integrated marketing communications, advertising, or related area.
•Demonstrated strength in scholarly productivity or the promise of scholarly productivity necessary to achieve tenure and promotion to rank of associate professor.
•Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level.
•Ability to teach research methods.

Minimum qualifications must be met at the time of the position start date.
