Bridge Operator


Job Details

An employee in this class operates a power-driven drawbridge to insure safe passage of water and land traffic with a minimum of delay. The work involves the performance of related semi-skilled mechanical tasks. Duties are subject to shift variation. Work is reviewed by frequent inspection and by review of the records which the employee keeps. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read & write English.

Some knowledge of the rules and regulations controlling the operation of drawbridges crossing navigable water of the County

some knowledge of heavy electrical motors and of power-driven hoisting machinery and equipment

skill in the use of simple mechanical tools to maintain and adjust motors and other bridge machinery

ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

ability to keep simple records and to make reports

ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies

physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
