Description: Job Summary:The cognitive health research team is seeking an enthusiastic, communicative, and detail-oriented individual to provide day to day project management and supervision for one or more large scale research projects. The Project Manager (PM) will support front-end operational administrative, recruitment, and interviewing activities for theKaiser Healthy Aging and Diverse Life Experience Study (KHANDLE) and at least one other protocol in the future. The PM will work in the office (not a virtual position) fulltime during regular business hours.The KHANDLE study aims to evaluate how early-life conditions influence racial and ethnic differences in dementia rates, and to understand risk factors for cognitive decline later in life. Study participants are all 65 years of age and older, come from diverse backgrounds, and are long-term Kaiser MembersResponsibilities include: 1) direct supervision of study interviewers and other staff involved in primary data collection, including overseeing hiring and training of field interviewers 2) collaborating with Dr. Gilsanz and other study managers to enhance and maintain recruitment and retention of study participants (e.g. overseeing study recruitment projections and assuring that target goals are met, holding regular study team meetings, and writing participant newsletters); 3) working closely with study interviewers and other in-office administrative staff to maintain and execute in a timely manner processes related to participant recruitment and study visits, including attentive oversite of study's computerized tracking systems; and 4) Overseeing quality control of primary data collection (e.g. assuring the quality of study questionnaires); 5) maintaining study supplies and procurement; overseeing the copying, filing, and tracking of study materials.Manages all aspects of large scale and/or multi-center research projects. Large project usually is multi-year, with a budget in excess of 200k annually and hundreds of participants at multiple sites, or involve highly complex data collection on a smaller number of participants. Resolves policy, research design and administrative issues and problems.Essential Responsibilities:Responsible for the day-to-day management/operations of large scale research projects. Supervises project coordinators, research associates/assistants, as well as hiring, disciplinary and termination decisions. Prepares grant proposals with the investigator for submission. May coordinate the work of programmers/analysts.Prepares, manages and balances budgets on projects. Responsible for collection of data and conducting data analysis. Prepares progress reports independently and collaboratively. May co-authors scientific papers with the investigator for publication. Interacts with national study sites, such as project officers, state and federal agencies, research teams from other organizations.Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.Secondary Functions:This is for one year. Continuation is contingent upon contract/grant funding. Basic Qualifications:ExperienceMinimum seven (7) years of experience in one or more of the technical areas required.EducationBachelors degree required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.License, Certification, RegistrationN/AAdditional Requirements:Demonstrate knowledge of research principles, design and strategies, bio-statistical analyses and data interpretation.Able to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses.Must demonstrate effective communication, consulting, interpersonal and project management skills.Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree in public health, health care administration, epidemiology or other related field OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field preferred. Experience with directly supervising staff. Ability to maintain meticulous organization of study documents. Must exhibit a professional manner with a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with staff, study participants, and other members of a research team. Excellent problem solving skills and ability balance and prioritize competing responsibilities. Demonstration of cultural humility including the ability to understand and effectively respond to cultural differences and to value diversity among all peoples. Understanding of all phases of research in the health care setting is desirable. Ability to read and comprehend detailed protocols, correspondence, & memos. Familiarity with data management software and working in a Microsoft Windows/Office environment.
