Job Details

Radio Frequency Hardware R&D Engineer

The Role:

The automotive wireless space is a challenging and exciting filed with an ever-increasing demand on high performance wireless interfaces. Connected vehicles customer experience is often dictated by the delivery of optimized RF solutions that need to balance styling, cost, and performance. With the rapid grown of these technologies, it has become fundamental for OE vehicle manufactures to design and develop solutions that meet the needs of advanced applications, such as child presence detection. In this role the candidate will be hands on contributing to the design efforts to develop bistatic radar sensing technology for in-cabin and external sensing applications.

Hardware engineers are professionals responsible for development and design of electrical hardware. The role of the hardware engineer involves various key responsibilities: component requirements development, component design, component validation.

Responsibilities:

Design RF structures and subsystem assemblies for 2.4GHz bistatic radar sensing technology

Hands on utilization, simulations and prototyping to develop antenna designs.

Predicting assembly level performance through selecting materials, components, and packaging approaches, RF chain analysis, electromagnetic simulation, data collection and analysis, and other modeling techniques

Lead prototyping efforts through PCB design to fabrication.

Define source-able subcomponent requirements based on core design.

Design and develop testing methods to validate fabricated antenna designs and RF path.

Perform antenna measurements in the anechoic chamber.

Analysis and testing of designs. Analyze simulation and field-testing results and provide recommendations for mitigation of any issues.

Coordinate, test, and verify EMI/EMC requirements, assist with EMI/EMC testing of hardware and software systems.

Required Qualifications:

Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related STEM field degree: Bachelor of Science with 5-10 years of RF/EMC/Hardware design and development experience; master's degree with 4+ years of RF/EMC/Hardware experience; PhD degree with 2-4 years of RF/EMC/Hardware experience.

Proficient with RF simulation and software tools such as HFSS, CST, ANSYS, MATLAB, Keysight ADS, etc.

Hands on experience with laboratory test equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, harmonic mixers, etc.

Knowledge of antennas and electromagnetic propagation

Working knowledge of near field spherical measurement systems, antenna radiation patterns

Knowledge of cellular technologies such as WiFi, BLE, UWB, GSM, 3G, 4G, and/or LTE.

Design experience in printed circuit board (PCB) with WiFi, BLE, UWB, GSM, 3G, 4G, and/or LTE modules.

Experience in analysis of electromagnetic interference and finding the root cause of EMC problems.

Must be familiar with the Electromagnetic concepts (such as RF isolation, shielding, grounding, and filtering)

Experience on RF circuit test, RF subsystem test, antenna test, and test routine software development using some scripting language. Understanding of various RF materials and their applicability.

Deep understanding of RF parameters, such as S-parameter, noise figure, IMD, IP3, phase noise, EIRP, etc., and their test method. Knowledge of RF Transmitters, Receivers, Radar system, antenna theory and test method, analog and digital circuitry.
