Job Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist provides support for the Inolex, Charlotte manufacturing site. This position is accountable for supporting all EHS activities at the site including monitoring EHS plant objectives and targets, internal reporting of EHS department performance, ensuring plant level EHS programs, policies, and procedures are developed, implemented, and sustained to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory and permit requirements. This position is also responsible for supporting a strong EHS culture that engages all employees throughout the site.


Duties/Responsibilities:

Drive and promote a Zero Incident culture for all employees

Motivate and coach employees on employee engagement and growing the site safety culture.

Support the internal auditing program for EHS programs by completing audits, developing corrective actions for identified findings, assist with closing action items, and assessing the appropriateness of corrective and preventative actions within all site departments

Coordinate with the EHS Manager and site Leadership Team to define EH&S goals and objectives

Support the EHS department with data analysis, data management, reporting and training while providing technical expertise

Support development, engagement and tracking for leading and lagging indicators relevant to EHS performance

Implement appropriate industrial emergency response procedures

Review site environmental permits and ensure terms and conditions are maintained in compliance with requirements. Ensure required documentation is maintained and required regulatory sampling and reports are submitted to the respective permit agencies

Mentor site leadership team and employees regarding EHS programs and technical information

Evaluate jobs for ergonomic improvements in work design and equipment

Investigate all incidents, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented according to regulatory and site EHS programs

Champion and lead projects designed to improve EHS programs in conjunction with the 5-year plan to reduce risks and achieve business sustainability objectives

Performs other related duties as assigned


Required Skills/Abilities:

Self-motivated professional with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks

Excellent analytical and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail

Collaborative approach to problem solving that incorporates stakeholders in the development of solutions that facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements

Ability to manage by influence through solid relationships to get results and drive change through others

Clear and effective written and oral communication skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Efficient time management skills

Education and Experience:

3 or more years experience in Environmental, Health and Safety in a chemical manufacturing environment

Bachelor s degree in an EHS-based discipline, biology, chemistry, and/or a related field

Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with ISO 14001 and 45001

Experience with Process Safety Management

Experience Wastewater Treatment

Experience with worker s compensation requirements for injuries/illnesses


Physical Requirements:

Frequent visits to plant floor, warehouse, external buildings, and exterior plant areas

Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 55 pounds

Must wear personal protective equipment
