Job Summary

To provide health care, counseling and follow-up to employees who become ill or injured at work. Develop and implement an onsite treatment center for employees to provide care for acute illness or injury utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques. To assess, treat, solve problems, counsel, educate and refer patients seen for acute illness or injury, utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques. Coordinates and implements a routine communicable disease prevention and health evaluation and education program for employees.

Responsibilities
Develop and implement an onsite treatment facility for the evaluation and the treatment of acute illness or injury, facilitating return to productive work. Collaborate with Employee Health, Human Resources, managers and staff to ensure effective program implementation. Management and treatment of uncomplicated acute and chronic medical problems within the clinical guidelines of family practice. Education of employees and/or families regarding preventive care, medical problems and of prescribed treatment and or medications. Consult with other health care providers such as nurses, physicians, advanced practice nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers and other appropriate specialists. Provides appropriate referrals for physical and occupational therapy. Use of appliances in the treatment of health problems that involve immobilization of a limb or joint; splints, slings, immobilizers, braces and lumbar supports. Diet management and modifications of diet therapy in accordance with the clients' health condition. Coordination with community and internal wellness programs to include health education, risk screening and risk reduction classes. Develop and implement documentation to assess savings created by employee utilizing acute care through employee health. Works collaboratively with Transitional employment coordinator and Employee Health nurses in the care and treatment of employees with on the job injuries, workers compensation claims and those in the transitional program. Assume a leadership role in developing policies and procedures to support the program. Develop and provide training for administrative staff, management staff and employees on program's implementation. Assess health status and health potential: plan, implement and evaluate health care needs of the employee relative to on the job issues. Plan, manage and evaluate therapeutic regimens for patients, consulting with Employee Health physician and other treating physicians. Plan, teach and counsel employees regarding current health status and job activities. Develop individualized modified duty plans, with measurable outcomes that maximize the employee's potential for return to full duty within defined time frames. Actively plan and monitor quality improvement/control for areas of responsibility. Perform history and physical examination and record data. Identify normal and abnormal findings and consult as needed with physician to determine the plan of treatment. Maintain an accurate current system for contacting employees ongoing programs such as tuberculosis (TB) control, immunizations, hepatitis exposure, communicable disease control, job injury follow up, and annual health evaluations. Follow up on course of illness. Provide individual HIV counseling and follow-up. Maintain separate confidential records. Work collaboratively with Human resources, department managers, hospital staff, and physicians community groups. Conduct epidemiologic outcome and process studies, including those concerning patient and employee infection and risk factors and record pertinent information Analyze data from laboratory culture reports, review of patients+ charts, from nursing and physician staff, and other data sources; make decisions regarding classification of patients as having infections or not, and the classification of infections as healthcare-associated (HAIs) or community-acquired; and investigate problems related to risks and infectious outcomes. Effectively use statistics in calculation of various rates, in data and trend analysis, and in report preparation; prepare reports for Infection Prevention Committee, Safety, HR, Administration, clinical departments, clinicians, and other committees, as well as for external entities as required. Integrate and maintain expertise in patient care practices, epidemiology, risk assessment, infectious diseases, microbiology, disease transmission, infection prevention and control, and sterilization/disinfection practices. Make on-site environmental rounds, monitor infection prevention and control procedures, including isolation procedures, and identify risk factors for infections and other adverse outcomes. Communicate to managers and staff the most current infection prevention and control techniques and procedures, and implement control measures, based on review of most current guidelines, standards, and policies and coach others to achieve optimal compliance. Ensure appropriate follow-up of patient/employee exposures. Exhibit an understanding of adult learning principles and adult education skills in the planning and implementation of educational programs. Represent CAMC on local and state health department committees as needed. Lead task force or subcommittee as assigned. Participate on hospital committees as assigned, focusing on safety, infection prevention, and wellness. Conduct construction risk assessments for all construction and renovation projects and approve projects, after providing recommendations for required infection prevention techniques.
