**JOB PURPOSE**

Leads a shift of Energy System Technicians in a multi-shift rotating 24/7 operations department, ensuring that organizational goals are met, operational excellence is achieved and maintained, and a healthy team culture is maintained that is consistent with Stanford Universitys core values. Reports to the Associate Director Plant Operations (ADO).

**CORE JOB DUTIES***

* Works as a member of the CEF Maintenance and Operations Team.

* Supervises and monitors shift operations, responsible for the reliable, efficient operation of the CEF and Thermal Energy System.

* Ensures Energy Oracle Solution (EOS) and Distributed Controls System (DCS) are operated per dispatch plan.

* Coordinates daily activities of assigned shift, including: scheduling and assigning work to staff and directing and leading workers in completing assigned work; monitoring work and project activity progress, making necessary changes; completing performance evaluations of assigned staff; performing quality assurance checks, and coordinating health and safety programs and training.

* Tracks budget for area of responsibility, and provide time and workforce needs and estimates to higher level management based on cost analyses, ensuring work is completed according to stipulated price and agreement.

* Implements, interprets, and manages policies and procedures pertaining to operations and facilities management.

* Assists in the administration of and lead site safety initiatives and programs including: Safe Work, Lock Out/Tag Out, safety lead, safety committee, behavior based safety observations, energy control procedures and plant safety audits.

* Oversees preparation of work permits and Job Safety Analysis and has authority to issue them.

* Ensures procedures are reviewed and updated with ADO direction and oversight.

* Performs Job Performance Measure (JPM) reviews for Operations.

* Assists in the development of annual technician requalification procedures / JPMs.

* Provides support to Energy System environmental compliance procedures as needed.

* Provides relief to other Shift Supervisors for vacancies as needed.

* Manages service contracts as applicable.

*Other duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**

* Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience.

* Two years of experience managing facilities operations staff.

* Five years of power plant operations experience

**MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES**

* Working knowledge of a distributed control system.

* Basic water chemistry knowledge.

* Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.

* Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.

* Demonstrated experience managing service contracts.

* Demonstrated experience planning, developing, and implementing programs.

* Ability to interpret planning specifications, documents, working drawings, and related reports.

* Demonstrated experience supervising the work of others.

**DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES**

* Operations experience at a district energy system or power generation facility.

* Experience with writing operations procedures.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**

* Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

* Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds.

* Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

* Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.

* Power Plant conditions require wearing of Personal Protective Equipment, including hearing protection with normal plant noise > 80dB TWA.

* May work at heights >4ft.
