We are searching for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel who will report directly to the Vice President of Legal. This position is centred around two key areas: firstly, managing disputes, litigation, and claims from the company's operations, and secondly, drafting and negotiating contracts, change orders, and claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the resolution of litigation, arbitration, or claims arising from the client's projects and operations.
- Providing strategic advice and guidance to the operations team on issues related to ongoing projects.
- Offering legal counsel on matters concerning the company's rights, obligations, and privileges.
- Advising the Human Resources Department on labour and employment issues.
- Reviewing and editing agreements in industrial and commercial markets to meet contracting requirements.
- Conducting legal research pertinent to the jurisdiction of the work.
- Participating in final negotiations of agreements with clients alongside the operations team.
- Managing external counsel, consultants, and internal teams to ensure cost-effective legal resolutions.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of dispute resolution, contracting, and claims policies.
- Identifying legal solutions for business or technical issues and recommending appropriate actions.
- Coordinating with insurers on coverage for insured matters.
- Collaborating with internal experts on review and negotiation efforts for specific topics.
- Reporting to and consulting with the Vice President of Legal on significant issues.
- Developing training programs to prevent and efficiently resolve disputes, while maintaining key relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. jurisdiction.
- If not currently licensed in Texas, the capability to obtain Texas licensure within six months of employment.
- Over ten years of experience in dispute resolution within the construction or engineering industry, including significant experience as a second chair in construction litigation or arbitration.
- Preferably, experience with construction and engineering agreements, with maritime or offshore industry experience also being advantageous.
- Proficiency in ESI systems and software, and proven efficiency in reviewing large volumes of litigation documents
- Exceptional organisational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated the ability to provide sound and timely legal advice, whilst upholding integrity to company policy.
- You must be able to adapt to frequent changes in a fast-paced environment, with confidence and focus
- Communicate professionally both written and verbally, and collaborate effectively within a diverse team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Contract Management, and eDiscovery software.
