Job Description
1. Conducts on-the-job training program for new Special Officers on how to perform the essential functions and responsibilities of their job consistent with the policies, procedures and guidelines applicable to NYS Peace Officers.
2. Provides consistent coaching, training and evaluation of new officers as part of the department's field training program.
3. Exposes new Special Officers to their full range of job tasks and guides the officers in displaying confidentiality and discretion required of Special Officers at NYC Health + Hospitals.
4. Guides Special Officers in the performance of their required tasks so they can become competent and self-sufficient in the practical application of their required tasks.
5. Reviews and reinforces de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques to ensure new Special Officers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply them in actual crisis situations they will face on the job.
6. Reviews site-specific policies and procedures applicable to the health care setting at their assigned facility.
7. Maintains a training record with daily checklists for each Special Officer to document each phase of the on-the-job training for new Officers.
8. Completes competency attestation including a written summary for the employee's personnel record, to certify that the incoming Special Officer is competent and prepared to work independently under general supervision.
9. Reviews and monitors the new Special Officers usage and competency in the receiving and dissemination of information via radio transmission, including the use of required codes.
10. Notifies Hospital Police leadership when new officers are not meeting performance standards consistent with the on-the-job training program.
11. Assists in the development and periodic updating of the On-the-Job Training Manual as well as the dissemination of the manual to each incoming Special Officer.
12. Attends training to become fully competent in the Hospital Police Academy curriculum and expectations for new officers.
13. Conducts in-service training for incumbent Special Officers, when directed to introduce new policies and/or procedures using standard curriculum provided by the Hospital Police Academy.
14. Assists the Hospital Police Academy in annual in-service training, as requested by the Director of Training and Development for Hospital Police.
15. Performs other related duties, as assigned, including the regular duties of a Special Officer or Supervising Special Officer.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Permanent Supervising Special Officer incumbents presently at this facility only with one (1) year of experience as a Supervising Special Officer; and
2. Must have no recent, current or pending disciplinary actions; and
3. Valid New York State (NYS) Peace Officer certification; and
4. Valid New York State (NYS) Driver's license; and
5. Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Field Training Officer (FTO) training administered by the Hospital Police Academy prior to commencing assignment as an FTO.
