Job Description Summary:

The Media Relations Coordinator involves developing media strategies, building relationships with media outlets, and creating engaging content to promote the School's achievements and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree English, Journalism, Communications, Public Affairs or allied field required.

* Three years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications, writing/editing, or related fields is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Excellent written communication skills, including writing on deadline.

* Excellent verbal communication skills, including interviewing skills.

* Strong understanding of media landscape and trends.

* Knowledge of AP Style.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.

* Knowledge of social media writing and posting.

* Experience with media monitoring and analysis tools.

* Ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines.

* Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in higher education or nonprofit sector.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

* Content Creation and Distribution - Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and feature stories. Develop engaging content for various media channels, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

* Media Outreach and Relationship Building - Coordinates media coverage by facilitating news coverage, creating, and disseminating press releases, responding to media inquiries, arranging, or participating in interviews, and contributing new stories to the online news center. Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategic media relations and public relations on a local, regional, and national front.

* Strategic Communication - Develops comprehensive plans to proactively drive strategic story opportunities across appropriate media outlets. Identify and capitalize on opportunities to promote the university's achievements, research, events, and initiatives.

* Internal Collaboration - Train key spokespeople to confidently and appropriately respond during any interaction with media contacts including filmed and/or live media interviews, news conferences, etc.

* Media Monitoring and Reporting - Monitor media coverage and analyze its impact on the school's reputation. Prepare regular reports on media activities and outcomes for senior management.
