Job Overview

This Union position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces NM. We offer a competitive wage, pension plan, leave/health benefits, and 401K. We are looking to hire the right person in the right place! Consider joining our team.

This position will provide support for both the potable water production, non-potable water systems, sewage systems, as well as residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing applications.

$36.18 hourly, with an additional $3.05 COLA for all hours worked.

Work Model: Onsite

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Apply technical knowledge to solve problems that typically can be solved by interpreting manufacturer's manuals.
  • Must be able to read mechanical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and/or similar documents in working with plumbing equipment, water systems, and sewage systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, install, repair, adjust, and fabricate all types of plumbing systems, pressure controls, sewer lines, piping, fittings, fixtures, and perform all phases of general and specialized plumbing.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the functions and operations of the operational water systems, sewage systems, chlorinator systems, its controls, and plumbing equipment at the White Sands Test Facility.
  • Ensure all work complies with the current plumbing codes and federal regulations concerning Safe Drinking Water- Act.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of automatic control valvesthat are specifically designed to meet the requirements of the White Sands Test Facility water utility systems.
  • Develop a good knowledge of area access to the various test stands, labs, and work areas located throughout WSTF and associated sites.
  • Complete all documents per White Sands Test Facility ISO standards.
  • Document completed work and submit work orders for review.
  • Comply with all White Sands Test Facility Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards associated with craft specific tasks and general White Sands Test Facility operations.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the appropriate tasks.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, mechanical rooms, workshop, and work truck.
  • Work overtime, pre-shift overtime, rotating shift, odd-workweek, weekends, and holidays as needed. Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complete timecard on a daily basis.
  • Contribute to a team effort and accomplish related results as required.
  • Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) Journeyman Plumber.
  • Five (5) years of documented field experience.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required level clearance.
  • Obtain NMED Water System Operator Level I Certification within twenty-four (24) months from date of hire.
  • Obtain NMED Wastewater System Operator Level I Certification within twenty-four (24) months from date of hire.
  • Obtain New Mexico recognized Backflow Prevention Tester Certification within one year from date of hire.
  • Once established, must maintain all certifications to remain qualified in this
  • Must be able to repair, retrofit, and install water utility pipping and water utility components.
  • Must be able to solder plumbing piping, fittings, and components.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and make field decisions that result in positive solutions.
  • Must meet requirements for certification, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WSTD).
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to regularly lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders and flights of stairs on a regular basis.
  • Must pass a physical examination as determined by the WSTF physical examinations requirements for the job classification.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is preferred.
