Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL NINE (9) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.
Kind of Work

Under direct supervision of the Customer Relations Supervisor, the purpose of the position is to provide customer service for utility customers; processes information requests; accesses customer account records; researches complaints; provides information, resolution, or directs to the appropriate entity. Employee in this position establishes new accounts and processes deposits using ID verification through Equifax. Assists customers with transfers, new service, disconnections, demolitions, and billing inquiries. Performs radio/dispatch duties, i.e., checking abnormal readings; pulling meters; blinding meters; ordering cut-offs. Calculates adjustments for billing errors and adjusts customer accounts. Collects payments on customers' accounts via Nexus, researches payments, and answers related questions. Processes new water meter installations and set up accounts. Issues work orders for re-reads of questionable meter readings; schedules re-checks of water meters, reconnection of service, and enters other relatable work orders into computer system. Receives, sorts, and processes mail in utility payments daily; posts payments to proper customer accounts; prepare bank deposits. Files affidavits for leak adjustments; assists customers with completing forms. Assists customers with established payment schedule/arrangements, as needed. Maintains integrity of unit record indexes and filing systems in alpha and/or numeric formats. Performs daily accounting and cash balancing of all monies transacted. Performs related work as directed.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent AND meets one of the following requirements:
I. Six (6) months of experience, either: (1) performing varied clerical duties or (2) utilizing a computer-based billing system in a customer service/relations role;
OR
II. Completion of classes in a career/technical education program (or in an Associate's or higher-level degree program) in office administration or a related business, billing, or clerical area of study. (Proof of education is required.)

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Sick Leave

Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.

Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.

A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.

Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-###-####.

Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
